Denver and Oklahoma City

This July I (Paul) had a couple of work trips, to Denver and then to Oklahoma City. Work trips mean I don't usually have much time on the side, but I did manage to visit one museum in each city, and of course there's the food! This will be a picture post just to help me remember what I did in each city. :)

Taking the train in to Denver from the airport - lots of transit oriented development. And transit was free!

Denver has a nice Union Station.

Cherry Creek has a great walking/biking trail next to downtown.

Dinner at  Chuey Fu's.

Mountains, and Elitch Gardens amusement park, from my hotel room.

Walking by the library and art museum.

Torchy's for lunch. Yum.

View of the state capitol building.

Downtown Denver.

The "History Colorado" museum let visitors leave thoughts on monument removal.

An exhibit on amusement parks.

A cool art exhibit about future time traveling warriors.

Part of the exhibit.

Colorado's first civil union license is in the museum.

They also had a large exhibit on the Sand Creek Massacre.

Next stop... Oklahoma City! I only had a day and a half here. My hotel was in the Bricktown area, and my meeting included a tour of the First Americans Museum. I drove through Oklahoma City way back in the early 2000s, but this was my first real visit. It has a nice enough downtown/Bricktown area, but did seem a bit quiet and empty. Some more apartments and condos downtown could fix this.

OKC has a streetcar. Unfortunately there's no public transit to the airport.

The Bricktown neighborhood.

Did you know there's a canal in Oklahoma City?

Nice views toward the tallest skyscraper in Oklahoma.

Dinner at Oklahoma Craft Nano Brewhouse Kitchen and Coffee Shop.

The canal area really is quite lovely, but was quiet on a Monday evening.

Cool art on the canal.

Further east on the canal is more bucolic.

Downtown OKC.

Walking by the Amtrak station.

The grounds around Myriad gardens downtown.

Early morning outside the botanical gardens.

Gotta get my coffee, even if it's just OK. :)

The convention center.

Happy hour at Bricktown Brewery.

No, I'm not in Santa Fe, it's just the OKC train station.

We had a tour of the First Americans Museum.

Impressive lobby.

The museum is world class with some great exhibits.

A cool presentation on world creation stories.

The museum had expansive information about injustices and genocide against indigenous peoples.

That's it for summer work travel. I won't miss the heat - it was in the upper 90s in Denver, and reached 102 in Oklahoma City.
