Clusterfest 2014

Atlanta is the place to be Labor Day Weekend. This year, more than 800,000 people attended events ranging from a toothpaste-themed NASCAR race to a sci-fi convention to the nation's largest independent book festival. The mishmash of events is referred to as Clusterfest. We had a blast last year, and this year my friend Lindsay was visiting. Labor day is the best time to visit Atlanta! Let the cluster commence:

Yay, Clusterfest is here!

The calm before the storm at Peachtree Center MARTA station

Centennial Olympic Park is the tourist center of Atlanta

The newly opened College Football Hall of Fame was hoppin'

Awesome seats for the Chick-fil-A kick-off game: Boise State vs Ole Miss in the Georgia Dome

We watched the fountain show at night

Skyview is a nice addition to the skyline

This year for the DragonCon parade we staked out a spot in a parking garage

Crowds waiting for the parade to start

Every building in this photo is by John Portman, the architect of Peachtree Center

Box heroes! My favorite!

Robot Santa Claus from Futurama at the end of the parade

The crowds after the parade

David's brain slug!

A neat new mural, part of Living Walls 2014

We stopped by O4W park and the Imagine music fest

Gotta have a King of Pops on a hot day!

The door of Tara from the film set of Gone with the Wind

Lindsay and Paul as the graceful stars of Gone With the Wind

Margaret Mitchell's typewriter and a photo of her interviewing Georgia Tech students

A little bit of rain can't stop us!

The cool fountain outside the new Center for Civil and Human Rights

It has quotes from various civil rights leaders

Mural inside the Center

No, this isn't an exhibit. It's a shrine to Mr. T at Homegrown

Of course we stopped by the Brick Store...

...while checking out the Decatur Book Festival!

Still some time to squeeze in a Braves game before the weekend is over

Exhibit in the Braves Hall of Fame Museum. For a brief period in 1997, the old Fulton County Stadium stood next to the newly converted Olympic Stadium.

Baseball time! Braves won!

Luckily our seats were in the shade

Nice view of the city from Turner Field

You can check out some more photos from the weekend's event on Creative Loafing. Now begins the long wait for Clusterfest 2015.
